The Landjäger Kürzestfilm Festival 2026

The Kürzestfilm Festival returns to Vienna’s Gartenbaukino on June 3, 2026. And this year, the dozen is finally complete: We’re celebrating 12 years of the 12-Second Festival!

For our anniversary edition, expect plenty of ultra-short surprises (stay tuned!) — and, as always, we’ll put you in the spotlight. At least for a very, very short moment.

So capture the best 12 seconds of your life and send us your shortest film for the big screen.

We promise: in 2026 there will once again be loads of awesome prizes for jury and audience winners.
For everyone else: fame, rum, and love, love, love — and of course: the best show ever!
Because the Landjäger loves you.
Love them too.

Tickets for the best show ever will be available here from May 3. Be quick and don’t forget to reserve early (even filmmakers in the Top 100 sadly don’t get automatic tickets).

Categories:

Please submit your movie in one of these categories. As always, the sky’s the limit, so go wild!

Category 1: Yesterday

Everything used to be better! Or was it? Yesterday, at least, many things still seemed possible. Yesterday is history, memory, rumor and archive all at once. It’s where nostalgia meets repression, private recollection meets collective history, memory meets its gaps. Yesterday can be sweet or bitter, sharp or blurry. It can be glorified, sugar-coated, twisted, or told a hundred times already. Or never before. All that matters is that your version – or vision – of yesterday can be told in exactly 12 seconds.

Category 2: Today

Now. Just now. As you’re reading this. Tick, tock. Time is running and today is already yesterday. Today is motion and standstill at the same time. Today is everything that bothers us, drives us, excites us or paralyzes us. Today is the attempt to capture what is already changing in the very same moment. Today is what’s happening right now – whether we’re looking or not. This one’s for those who do look. And please: better today than tomorrow.

Category 3: Tomorrow

Tomorrow, kids, something’s coming! But what? Hope? Fear? Plans? Disruptions? Visions? Utopias? Dystopias? What will come tomorrow? What could come, what should come, what must never come? Tomorrow is what we long for or dread. Or the thing we keep postponing until it’s too late.

Category 4: Never

Never! Never! Never! Absolutely not. No way. Definitely not! Never say never? We say: say never! Never is the big promise you make right before you break it. The categorical exclusion followed by “okay, maybe after all.” This is where things live that we would never do – except under very specific circumstances, on a very special day, with a really good excuse. But otherwise: never!

And otherwise:

Please send in your films without opening and closing credits. That’s what we do.
